In the last quarter of the 20th century, the dissolution of the boundaries between diverse fields caused the integration of different creative representational forms, and unified approaches in cultural creativity and production necessitated an education that aimed at strengthening the intellectual thought processes in perception of art. Therefore the objective of this faculty is to establish a program that would let the students to discover their own identities and creativity freely, and not only express these by their technical skills in diverse representational forms but also to develop a conceptual framework for them.
The foremost principle of our faculty is unity in design. New developments in the 21st century could only be achieved by combining the diverse fields of art in a unified design separated by specialization.
Based on these objectives, Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture in Baskent University includes five departments and six programs: Undergraduate program in the Department of Visual Arts and Design; undergraduate program in the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design; undergraduate programs of Composition and Music Theory, and Opera-Choir and Popular Music Singing in the Department of Music and Performing Arts, Department of History Art. In addition, Fine Arts Unit provides elective courses to all the students of the Baskent University from different departments who would contribute to the future of Turkey. It establishes a contemporary educational framework for these students that would not only develop their interest and skills in fine arts, but also equip them with a broader cultural perspective when assessing their world.
Institute of Social Science offers three graduate programs: Performance (thesis
not required), Musicology, and Composition. Also Orkestra Akademik Baskent
linked to the Department of Music and Performing Arts contributes to the education
